MISSION STATEMENT AND STRATEGIC PLAN Mission The mission of the American Public Works Association Utah Chapter, in an effort to maintain and develop safe and effective Public Works services in Utah, provides a vehicle for leadership advancement, professional progress, and industry enrichment, for future growth and development in Utah communities.
Goals & Strategy
1. Provide a forum for education opportunities and information exchange a. Develop a Committee for Monthly Meeting Programs. b. Permit time for networking with membership. c. Encourage and vary Utah support and representation at national meetings.
2. Ensure quality and diverse programs a. Provide Monthly Meetings on a continuous and consistent basis. b. Develop meetings with quality content, varied subject matter and sound structure to meet the membership’s needs. c. Pursue continuing education accreditation.
3. Assure and enhance the image and professionalism of Public Works a. The Executive Committee (President and President-elect), acting as a liaison, spokesperson and representative by and between government agencies, media, and the public. b. Develop and implement monthly committee, task force, co-operatives updates. c. Promote media relations through press releases emphasizing APWA events and achievement, including developing and improving the APWA Utah Chapter website. d. Encourage dignitary support and involvement. e. Sponsor community services and action.
4. Expand and build on relationships and partnerships through other groups and organizations involved in the industry a. Develop annual meetings in cooperation with partnering organizations. b. Facilitate and promote partnership through leadership involvement and invitations to events. c. Develop and promote industry tools, such as APWA specifications, tool box talks, best management practices.
5. Recruit new and retain existing members a. Recruit new and retain existing members through membership involvement. b. Recognize and introduce individuals at meetings, who are unfamiliar with APWA or who promote APWA membership recruitment. c. Follow up with colleagues who have attended meetings. d. Develop a prospective member list including but not limited to City, County, State and Federal elected, appointed officials & employees, Public Works Directors, City Engineers, Operations, Parks & Rec, Fleet, Sanitation, First Responders, Public Relations, Civil Engineers, Inspectors, consultants, learning institutions, utilities, contractors, Department of Transportation, suppliers/vendors, and like organizations.
